Numbers of follow-ups delivered
On this page:
Notes
- This section reflects follow-up activity by year of delivery, independently of health checks.
- Some records from a small number of service providers have been excluded due to data quality concerns.
Latest data
In 2023:
- 372,000 follow-up services were delivered to 158,000 patients – or 17% of the First Nations population.
- More females received a follow-up service than compared with males (19% of females and 15% of males).
- Use of follow-up services generally increased with age, with 40% of the population aged 75 and over having a follow-up, compared with 12% of those aged 15–24.
Trends over time
Between 2013 and 2023:
- The numbers of follow-up services delivered increased broadly consistently until the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, service delivery started to level off then dipped in subsequent years.
- In 2022, the numbers of follow-ups (and patients) began to trend upward again. In proportion to the population, patient numbers are still below where they peaked at the start of the pandemic (17% in 2023, compared with 19% in the year spanning July 2019 to June 2020).

A set of 4 interactive charts. The first is a column graph showing more females than males had a follow-up service. The second is a column graph showing use of follow-ups by age and sex. The third is a line graph showing the amount of follow-up activity increasing until around 2020, after which it began to drop. More recently it has been increasing again. The fourth is a line graph showing the amount of follow-up activity by age group over time. Refer to table FS01 in data tables.
