Spirits and cider available for consumption

Spirits

There was a sharp increase in the amount of alcohol in the form of spirits being made available between 2019–20 and 2022–23, from 2.1 litres to 2.5 litres per capita. This continued an increasing trend since 2016–17 when 1.8 litres of alcohol per capita were made available.

The types of spirits being made available have also changed. Ready-to-drink beverages (for example, spirits mixed with soft drinks) made up 28% of spirits consumption in 2019–20 but increased to 32% in 2022–23.

Cider

Cider continues to make up a small portion of the total amount of alcohol made available in Australia. In 2022–23, about 0.27 litres of pure alcohol from cider were made available per capita, a small increase from 0.25 litres in 2019–20.
