Data is collected for all maternal deaths (up to and including 42 days post partum) occurring in each state or territory.

Data collection commenced from 1 January 2013. Retrospective data for 2006-2012 has also been provided by most jurisdictions.

Late maternal deaths (occurring from 43 days postpartum up to and including 365 days post partum) are optional and can be supplied if the state/territory wishes to do so.
