These are the Sax Institute’s costs for the setup of the project environment within SURE, correct as of October 2024 and subject to change. The components of this setup include:

  • Assigning resources for virtual machines to conduct the analysis, including access to software
  • Preparation of data storage area specific to this research group
  • User training
  • Suspension of project (optional)
  • Archiving of code and data (optional)

Up-front costs

ItemPrice (ex GST)
Project Folder Establishment Fee (One off)$940.00
User training (per user)$0.00

Ongoing costs

These are the ongoing costs for any project, per 3 months of resources:

ItemPrice per 3 months (ex GST)
Project annual operations$367.50
Virtual machine – ‘supervisor’$385.00
Virtual machine – ‘standard’$768.75
Virtual machine – ‘power’$980.00
Virtual machine – ‘2x power’$1,383.75
Virtual machine – ‘4x power’$2,190.00
Per user that shares a virtual machine$183.75

In general, we suggest that the standard level machine will be sufficient for most research purposes using the DOMINO dataset. If needed, the machine can be upgraded to meet the researcher’s requirements. The machine breakdowns are:

Suspension

The Sax Institute offers the option to suspend a workspace folder. This involves all data being maintained on our servers whilst all associated user and virtual machine access is removed. The cost of the folder suspension fee is $235 (ex GST) per annum per folder and can be pro-rated to the time period requested (minimum 1 month).

Archiving option

The Sax Institute also offers the option to archive and storage the contents of the researcher’s SURE project for up to 10 years. This involves backing up the data associated with the project on a physical tape and removing the workspace folder from the server. The closure and archiving of all or part of a study requires a one-off fee of $550 (ex GST).
