Interpretation

An increase in the proportion of women who have experienced FDV, who have someone they don’t live with who they can ask for support when in crisis may indicate a greater social connectedness for victim-survivors of FDV.

Computation description

This measure is the number of women who have experienced violence from a family member or intimate partner in the last 5 years, who said they had someone they don’t live with who they can ask for support in a time of crisis expressed as a proportion of women who have experienced partner violence in the last 5 years.

  • state and territory 
  • age
  • country of birth
  • disability status
  • sexual orientation
  • remoteness.
Notes

Partner violence is defined as physical and/or sexual violence from a current or previous cohabiting partner. 
Sexual violence is defined as the occurrence, attempt or threat of sexual assault. 
Physical violence is defined as the occurrence, attempt or threat of physical assault.

Limitations

Data on violence by a family or intimate partner are only available from 2021–22 onwards. 
For some population groups, numbers may be too small to be reported on separately.  
Where the RSE for numbers and estimates is between 25% and 50%, this will be indicated in the data visualisation and any accompanying data tables. Where the RSE is greater than 50%, the data will not be published.
