Zoran Bolevich to be next AIHW CEO
The Chair of the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Board, the Honourable Nicola Roxon, has welcomed the announcement that Dr Zoran Bolevich will be the AIHW’s next Chief Executive Officer.
The Hon. Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Aged Care, has announced that Dr Bolevich will next month begin a five-year term as CEO of the AIHW.
‘Dr Bolevich has spent years of his life working to improve health and medical data standards in Australia. I can’t think of a better person to lead the AIHW. I look forward to working with him to use the most cutting-edge information and data to improve our health policies.’
Dr Bolevich will leave his role as Chief Executive, eHealth NSW and Chief Information Officer, NSW Health, at the end of May.
Before joining eHealth NSW, Dr Bolevich worked at the NSW Ministry of Health as executive director for health system information and performance reporting, and as acting deputy secretary for system purchasing and performance.
‘Dr Bolevich will bring energy, expertise and experience to the role. Given how much of AIHW’s work is dependent on strong, co-operative relationships and trust with the States and Territories, his work at the jurisdictional level will bring important and fresh perspective to the Commonwealth,’ Ms Roxon said.
During his prior 25‑year career, Dr Bolevich has worked in a range of senior health management, information and communication technology (ICT) leadership roles in Australia and New Zealand.
Dr Bolevich has served as a member of the AIHW Board since February 2016 and with the announcement, has resigned from the AIHW Board.
Minister Butler thanked Mr Matthew James who has been acting as AIHW CEO since the departure of Mr Rob Heferen in late-February.
‘I would like to thank Matthew James for his time and hard work as acting chief executive officer for the past few months, and welcome aboard Dr Bolevich,’ Minister Butler said.
‘Matthew James is an invaluable asset to the AIHW. His passion and determination for data and information improvement coupled with his understanding of the broader health and welfare landscape mean that the AIHW has been in excellent hands over the last few months,’ Ms Roxon said.
‘I’m excited for the future of the AIHW and the role the agency will continue to play to achieve our mission, stronger evidence, better decisions, improved health and welfare’.
The AIHW is an independent Australian Government statutory agency.
