Background
The National Maternity Data Development Project (NMDDP) aims to develop a nationally consistent and comprehensive maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity data collection In Australia. The National Maternity Data Development Project Advisory Group (NMDDP AG) provides expert clinical, technical, research and statistical advice to support deliverables under the NMDDP.
Terms of reference
The NMDDP AG is required to:
- Provide expert advice and guidance on current and emerging perinatal and maternal issues, including perinatal and maternal morbidity and mortality, maternity services and systems, and models of maternity care.
- Provide clinical and technical input to maternity data development work and provide advice on maternity data collections and data collection practices.
- Provide advice on, and input to the project work plan, attend scheduled meetings and contribute to out-of-session correspondence as necessary.
- Consider the outcomes of relevant related projects and advise on their linkage/impact to this project.
- Provide feedback and advice to documents arising from other working groups formed to oversee specific project activities.
- Provide timely feedback on the content and structure of working documents and draft reports.
- Facilitate communication with membership bodies and other stakeholders where applicable to assist the Secretariat in progressing consultation on relevant items.
Membership
The NMDDP AG comprises of key experts in the fields of obstetrics, midwifery, research, statistics, consumer advocacy and health policy. Other experts and observers may be invited onto the Advisory Group or co-opted as required.
Two subgroups provide advice on content specific topics:
- The National Maternal and Perinatal Mortality Advisory Group (NMPMAG) which assists with work on maternal and perinatal mortality.
- The Clinical and Data Reference Group (CDRG), which guides the data development work for clinical data items.
The NMDDP AG is currently chaired by Professor Jeremy Oats, who is the Perinatal Advisor to the AIHW.
