The National Death Index (NDI) is a database developed and maintained by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), in Canberra. The database is a listing of all deaths that have occurred in Australia since 1980. It is an invaluable tool for epidemiologists and clinicians in following up research cohorts using record linkage.
Note: The National Death Index cannot be used to locate missing family members. We recommend you contact the registry of births, deaths, and marriages in your state or territory to advise you on how best to proceed.
