The APEG dataset contains information on young people with insulin-treated diabetes aged 0–14 years at the time of diagnosis. As insulin-treated type 2 diabetes is rare in children under 15 years old, most of the children and adolescents listed on the APEG dataset have type 1 diabetes.
APEG data are primarily used by the AIHW (together with National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) Registrant data; NDSS Sales data and National Death Index (NDI) data) to create the National (insulin-treated) Diabetes Register (NDR).
The collection of the APEG data by AIHW ceased in 2022.
