The source of these data is the AIHW National Elective Surgery Waiting Times Data Collection. Other data on elective surgery waiting times are available in Australian Hospital Statistics 2006-07. Some data have been revised since previously published. For confidentiality, some data have been suppressed.
Elective surgery waiting times cubes for 2001-02 to 2007-08
The state and territory health authorities have provided episode-level data on elective surgery waiting times to the AIHW's National Elective Surgery Waiting Times Data Collection.
The National Elective Surgery Waiting Times Data Collection relates to public acute care hospitals. All public hospitals that undertake elective surgery were generally included. More detail on the coverage of this collection, including a list of hospitals in the data collection for 2007-08, is included in Appendix 2 of Australian Hospital Statistics 2007-08. Summary information on the quality and comparability of the data is included in Chapter 5.
Three data cubes are available on elective surgery waiting times. They contain information for:
- Reason for removal, 2002-03 to 2007-08
- Surgical specialty, 2001-02 to 2007-08
- Indicator procedure, 2001-02 to 2007-08
The variables in the data cubes are:
- Year
- State/territory
The measures (values) in the data cubes are:
- Number of records
- Waiting time at the 50th percentile (days)
- Waiting time at the 90th percentile (days)
- Proportion of patients waiting more than 365 days
